This is a video I came across over at YouTube showing a lightning storm on Earth as seen from space. The video was shot from a NASA space shuttle in low orbit over Earth. Videos of this abound on the internet, but (like seemingly most of NASA’s library) the vast majority lack clarity, colour, and resolution and look more like a series of flashbangs thrown to the ground. This one is in colour and of relatively good quality.

Which begs the question: when will NASA shell out for a couple of those high definition video cameras which sport broadcasters seem to utilise in the dozens? Why do we train better cameras on the cricket than we do on the cosmos?
